Fanfiction Net: One Week

It's Sunday afternoon, and except for a brief resumption on Tuesday night, the posting lockout continues. It may seem like a minor frustration, but to those of us who have an online community there, it is disheartening. I am beginning to think that this is the end of something that has been a meaningful and enjoyable part of my life for over five years.

Do I pull the plug? Do I set up an alternate site and hope some of my good friends from FFN can find their way there? That is, assuming they haven't drifted away already.

Well, as I said elsewhere I think that most of the regulars are waiting (like me) for the posting to be enabled again. But there's a decent infrastructure in place to let people to know about a new forum/community, if you end up creating one later.

Hey, what's going on with ff.net?

For an entire week, the reply window for the forums at FFN has given an error message. Forum activity has ground to a halt. The last Great Lockout (TM) lasted only three days. This is unprecedented.

This usually happens when they're making an 'improvement' that no one wants or will use much.

Okay, sounds about like what happens with LJ periodically. I so rarely go to ff.net that I didn't notice. It would be nice for them to give y'all a warning.

Seconding Laud, here - if you should decide to set up a forum elsewhere, of course I would be happy to post there, too. However, I think FFN will finally start to function again, sooner or later; they may simply have to fiddle with some very complicated improvement or some very jumpy server infrastructure, this time.

In any case, it would really be better if they would decide to set up an information site of feature to give a note of what is happening to users, at times like this one. :C

FFN Forums
Looks like FFN's forums are really dead this time. Has anyone found any outside information about what they are doing?

Re: FFN Forums
Not a word about what's happening. I finally got fed up and set up a Pro-Board forum here: http://cabbagesandkings.proboards.com/index.cgi

Who be ye, anonymous stranger?

Re: FFN Forums
Oh Shoot, sorry Randy, it's LasseLanta. I was just over there and it looks like everything in the forums has been frozen for a week or two. Nothing on the front page about it, of course.

Re: FFN Forums
No problem. Other than Live Journal has decided it wants to screen anonymous comments for me. Yea, the lockout had lasted over a week. Then we had a few hours of posting ability yesterday afernoon. The error message reappeared mid-evening.

Now there is an announcement on the front page saying that they are disabling all external links from profiles, which means I have to provide raw URLs for the new forum and for any stories I keep off site. And in the meantime, they've disabled internal links as well -- to the FFN version of Cabbages & Kings. I'm more than a little put out with FFN at the moment.
